Iran attends 21st Intl. Informatics Olympiad in Bulgaria

TEHRAN (MNA) -- With the participation of young Iranian scientists, the 21st International Informatic Olympiad was officially opened in Plovdiv, Southern Bulgaria on Sunday.

Fereshteh Khani, Ali Babaei, Soheil Ehsani and Pouya Vahidi are the four Iranian students representing the Islamic Republic at the eight-day event.
The team is accompanied by its leaders Kamran Bavar and Qasem Jaberipour.
Eighty-five countries are participating in the competition running from August 8 to 15, 2009.
The International Informatics Olympiad (IIO) is the world championship informatics competition for high school students under 20 and is held in a different country each year. The first IIO was held in 1989, with just a couple of countries participating. This year it is welcoming more than 80 countries from 5 continents.
The team members, competing as individuals, solve problems using computers. Winners will receive gold, silver or bronze medals.
